2011

 

In July 2011, Dr. Vitaly Sorokin of Dept of CTVS has been awarded the NUHS Clinician Scientist Program (NCSP) for a period of 1 year from 27 July 2011 to 26 July 2012 for his research project titled:“Differential Gene Expression of Aortic Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells from Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction and Chronic Stable Angina: A Class Comparison Study to Investigate the Genomic Regulation of Phenotype Switching”.

In February 2011, Professor Lee Chuen Neng was awarded the Honorary Fellowship of the Indian Association Of Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgeons (IACTS). The ceremony in Chennai was presided over by the Governor of Tripura, His Excellency Dr DY Patil. This year, this prestigious appointment was awarded to 4 awardees, the other 3 awardees are from America (Texas Heart Institute), Europe (University of Barcelona) and UK (UK National SAC).

 

 


 

2010

 

In December 2010, Dr Joshua Loh (Assoc Consultant, NUHCS) clinched the First Prize in the Young Investigator's Award of the 18th ASEAN Congress of Cardiology held in Cebu from 1 - 3 Dec 2010. This is in recognition of his research "The relation of the index of microcirculatory resistance to indices of microvascular perfusion and cardiac injury following primary angioplasty for ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI)".

 

In March 2010, NUHCS won the top 3 prizes for the 22nd Singapore Cardiac Society Annual Scientific Meeting Young Investigators' Award.

2009


In April 2009, A/Prof Tan Huay Cheem was conferred Visiting Professorship with Henan University for his outstanding contribution to the development of intervention cardiology in China.





2008


At the 88th Annual Meeting of the AATS in Washington DC, Prof Lee Chuen Neng was elected as Member of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, being one of the 12 cardiothoracic surgeons to be elected outside of North America for 2008 and the only one from Singapore so far.


Prof Chia Boon Lock was conferred the Singapore Medical Association Honorary Award for his pioneering work in developing Cardiology in Singapore for the Year 2008.


A/Prof Tan Huay Cheem is honoured as the Singapore Cardiac Society Lecturer for Year 2008, an award bestowed upon a member who has contributed significantly to the Society.


Dr Chan Wan Xian won 1st prize in the Young Investigator's Award at the annual Singapore Cardiac Society Meeting 2008. Her work on "Cardiorespiratory gas exchange analysis during dynamic exercise predicts surgical indications for severe mitral regurgitation" stood out among a very competitive field of research projects.


A/Prof Tan Huay Cheem was conferred fellowship by ASEAN College of Cardiology during ASEAN Congress of Cardiology 2008 in recognition of significant contributions to the development of Cardiology in the region.


Dr Carolyn Lam won The Women in Cardiology Trainee Award for Excellence during the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions.


National University Health System (NUHS), Singapore and Shanghai Chest Hospital signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to signify a closer working relationship between the two institutions. This is driven by the long working relationship between the National University Heart Centre Singapore (NUHCS) and the Cardiology Department of Shanghai Chest Hospital.


Dr Ooi Oon Cheong was a recipient of the Thoracic Surgeons Foundation's scholarship to attend the Brandeis University's Leader Program in Health Policy and Management for Senior Level Healthcare Providers.  He was also a recipient of the Ministry of Health Healthcare Research Scholarship in Master of Clinical Investigations, MCI.


Asst Prof John Tam was awarded a research grant by National Medical Research Council (NMRC) in 2008 to pursue his work on identifying Large Scale Myocardial Restoration Using in Vivo Prevascularized, Tissue-Engineered Grafts


Assistant Professor Theodoros Kofidis's project to develop an implantation device that can reduce the risks and halve the time for a mitral valve replacement operation was awarded funding of up to $250,000 in the first grant call of the National research Foundation's (NRF) Proof-Of-Concept (POC) scheme.




2007


In June 2007, A/Prof Tan Huay Cheem was conferred Visiting Professorship of Shanghai Chest Hospital, an affiliation of Shanghai Jiao Tong University for his outstanding contribution to the development of intervention cardiology in China.


Beijing Aerospace Clinical Institute, an affiliate of The University of Beijing awarded Lifetime Honorary Professorship to A/Prof Tan Huay Cheem in September 2007.


A/Prof Tan Huay Cheem, Senior Consultant & Chief of Cardiac Department, NUH; and Dr James Yip, Consultant and Clinical Director, Adult Congenital Heart Disease, Cardiac Department, and Deputy Chief Medical Information Officer, NUH were conferred the NHG Outstanding Citizenship Award on 10 November 2007 for going beyond their area of expertise to help NHG achieve its strategic organizational goals in improving healthcare delivery.


Won best Clinical Practice Improvement Project (CPIP) at the NHG in shortening the median door-to-balloon time from 103 minutes in October 2006 to 70 minutes for patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention at NUH at the National Healthcare Group (NHG) Annual Scientific Meeting held in November 2007.


Asst Prof Theodoros Kofidis and Prof Uwe Klima were awarded the following research grands by the National Medical Research Council (NMRC) in 2007 to pursue their work in

1. Full Thickness Myocardial Tissue Construct with Anaestomosable Core Vessel Based Upon Cardiomyocyte and Endothelial Cell Coculture

2. Large Scale Myocardial Restoration Using in Vivo Prevascularized, Tissue-Engineered Grafts


They were also awarded another research grant by the Biomedical Research Council (BMRC) in 2008 to pursue their work in In vivo Vascularization and Maturation of Bioartifical Grafts for Organ Restoration.




2006


In 2006, 12 of the CCU (NUH Coronary Care Unit) nurses were awarded EXSA, an Excellent Service Award which is a national award that recognises individuals who deliver outstanding services.


Dr Raymond Wong was presented the Young Investigator's Award at the Singapore Cardiac Society Meeting.


Professor Chia Boon Lock from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine joined the ranks of a small group of distinguished academics who have earned the title of Emeritues Professor. He was conferred the title during the Commencement 2006 ceremony in July.
