" I came down with heart disease several years ago. During this period I was in and out of hospital. I was depressed despite the treatment I received and kept encountering problems related to my disease.
One day, I wrote a letter to my case management officer Seow Yen Hoon of the National University Health System (NUHS) citing my helplessness. Ms Seow responded at once with a phone call and said she had arranged for Dr Chai Ping, also of NUHS, to see me.
I am hugely grateful to Dr Chai and Ms Seow.
They both performed well as a team and I owe my marked improvement in health to their vigilance and care. Dr Chai belongs to a rare breed of doctors who go beyond the clinical practice of medicine. His charismatic approach and personal involvement in my case was really magical.
He made it very easy for me to communicate with him. He listened intently and gave me valuable advice. He was humble, humane and deeply involved. I consider these qualities necessary for any patient to get well.
In the final analysis, it is not the cocktail of medications that make the difference in healing a patient's illness, it is the doctor behind the treatment."
