Objective
This half-day course aims to provide medical practitioners with the essential theoretical knowledge and practical experience of basic chest tube insertion within a controlled workshop environment. The theoretical knowledge will encompass surface and gross anatomy, pre-procedure checklist, and basic technique of the procedure. The practical experience will be gained from performing the procedure on a simulation mannequin.
About
Chest tube, central line and Swann-Ganz Catheter insertion are commonly performed procedures in any hospital. Every young practicing doctor needs to be proficient in these procedures, which can be potentially harmful if it is not carried out properly.
This workshop is designed for each participant to gain an understanding of:

Recommended techniques of insertion, including hands-on practice on a simulation mannequin

Precautions that should be taken so as to minimise complications

Management of the chest tube and underwater seal
Who should apply
This workshop is open to ALL House Officers (HO), Medical Officers (MO), Registrars and Clinical Fellows.
2 CME points will be accredited to participants.

| Cancellation Clause |
Any cancellation or replacement must be conveyed to Ms Yvonne Lin via email. A cancellation charge of 50% of fees will be levied if the cancellation is received before 9 April 2010. There will be no refund of fee if the cancellation is made on or after 9 April 2010.
The organiser reserves the right to cancel the workshop and fully refund the participants should unforeseen circumstances necessitate it. |
