Dr Mark Chan is a practicing cardiologist at the National University Hospital, Singapore, and a clinical instructor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Singapore. Dr Chan obtained his Master of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) diploma in 2002, and completed his cardiology training at the National University Hospital, Singapore in 2006.

 

He subsequently spent two years doing clinical-translational research at the Duke Clinical Research Institute, during which he served as a co-chief fellow, and graduated with a Master of Health Science degree from Duke University in 2008. He then spent another 18 months at the Montreal Heart Institute doing a combined fellowship in interventional cardiology and platelet biology.

 

He has authored or co-authored more than 30 papers in peer-reviewed journals, including tier 1 journals such as Circulation, and has presented more than 20 abstracts at international scientific meetings. He has been the principal investigator of multiple large outcome studies in acute coronary syndromes, the co-principal investigator of two phase I studies on a novel factor IX aptamer-antidote anticoagulant system and now serves on the steering committee of the international phase III TRILOGY-ACS study.

 

Presently, he is the principal investigator of the following studies: an NMRC-funded study investigating platelet gene expression predictors of clopidogrel resistance, a study profiling the human metabolome in ischemia-reperfusion, and a study to validate the GRACE risk score in a nation-wide registry of patients with acute coronary syndromes. He presently supervises the NUHCS cardiovascular research thrombosis program and the high-risk post-ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) clinic.
