What is it?
The dedicated Cardiomyopathy Clinic at NUHCS aims to be a referral center for patients with various forms of myocardial dysfunction, including dilated cardiomyopaty (DCM), hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), and other forms of cardiomyopathic disease such as radiation, restrictive and infiltrative heart disease.
Advance investigative methods consisting of both imaging and invasive techniques, such as echocardiography, magnetic resonance imaging, positron emission tomography and endomyocardial biopsy are available for exact diagnosis, tissue characterization, risk stratification and family screening.
Some cardiomyopathic conditions are inherently familial or genetically transmitted. This implies that certain family members may acquire the same condition albeit not having any symptoms presently. The Clinic will offer family screening for family members at risk.
For some forms of cardiomyopathy, such as HCM, which are inheritable and potentially debilitating and fatal, the Cardiomyopathy Clinic at NUHCS currently provides one-stop coordinated clinic service dedicated to serving this group of patients.
