Dr Goodyear graduated from the University of Leicester Medical School (UK) with an MBChB in 2001. He completed his basic surgical training within the Warwickshire and Worcestershire Surgical Training Programme, where he was awarded the Robert Benny Basic Surgical Training Prize on completion.
He subsequently undertook a period of clinical research as an Honorary Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Warwick (UK). During this time, he completed a Postgraduate Award (PGA) in Medical Education and successfully submitted his doctoral thesis for the award of MD.
Dr Goodyear completed higher surgical training in General and Vascular Surgery within the West Midlands Deanery rotation. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2013 and achieved Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), gaining entry to the GMC Specialist Register (General Surgery) in 2014.
As a senior registrar, he was elected to represent UK vascular trainees through The Rouleaux Club as the affiliate representative member of the Council of the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland (2013–2015). During this period, he contributed to the Provision of Vascular Services national guideline (2015) and participated actively in curriculum development committees during the establishment of Vascular Surgery as a newly independent UK specialty.
In 2014, Dr Goodyear was appointed Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust (UK). Alongside his clinical practice, he held several senior leadership roles, including Major Trauma Lead (2016–2020), Clinical Lead for Vascular Surgery (2018–2020), and Divisional Director for Surgical Services (2020–2025). Concurrently, he maintained a private professional practice as a Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon at Spire South Bank Hospital, Worcester (UK).
He later completed an Executive Master’s degree in Medical Leadership with Distinction at Bayes Business School, City, University of London (2023), and was awarded Fellowship of the Chartered Management Institute in 2024.
Academically, Dr Goodyear has authored over twenty peer-reviewed publications across the fields of medical science, physiology, General Surgery, Renal Transplantation, and Vascular Surgery, and has contributed to national clinical guidance publications.
He has maintained a supplementary practice in pre-hospital trauma medicine since 2006, predominantly within motorsport medicine, and led the British Motorcycle Racing Club medical team from 2017 to 2025.
Dr Goodyear is an accredited Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Instructor and has a strong commitment to medical education, valuing opportunities to share his training and experience with future generations of doctors.
He is currently appointed as Senior Consultant in the Vascular Surgery Division at the National University Heart Centre Singapore (NUHCS) from January 2026.
