Cardio4Cities @ NUHCS

2026/01/15

Heart disease is one of the top causes of death in Singapore. However, it is no longer just an older person's problem.

Here at the National University Heart Centre, Singapore (NUHCS), we noticed more young people in their 40s - and even younger - being affected by heart disease. This is a growing concern for us, and it has inspired our team to take action to better support our community.

About Cardio4Cities @ NUHCS

We believe that catching heart health risks early is key in preventing serious problems down the road.

By identifying these health risks as early as possible, we can offer the right care and guidance to help individuals avoid heart attacks, strokes, and other cardiovascular complications that can disrupt their lives - especially for younger individuals who have so much ahead of them.

That is why NUHCS is rolling out Cardio4Cities @ NUHCS, bringing complimentary community health checks directly to locations which are easy to access and familiar - like places of worship, community clubs and other local gathering spots - so everyone has the chance to learn about their heart health and take steps to protect it.

Why Follow-Up Matters

Did you know that 1 in 4 people in Singapore do not follow up with a medical professional after knowing that their health results are concerning?

Ignoring these warning signs can be dangerous because conditions like high blood pressure (hypertension), high cholesterol, and diabetes often have no symptoms until serious complications occur. Early follow-up is very important as it allows timely treatment, prevents long-term damage to the body, and reduces the risk of heart disease and stroke.

With the Cardio4Cities @ NUHCS programme, our team will not only bring complimentary health checks closer to the young, working population who may not have the time to take care of their healths, but we will also provide structured follow-up options to help them stay on track with their health for the long-term.

Am I eligible for Cardio4Cities @ NUHCS?

How long will the health check take?

The health check typically takes 30-45 minutes, depending on the tests and consultation. You will receive a report of your health stats* immediately upon the completion of the health checks.

*This health check should not be taken as a full representation of your overall health. If your results are abnormal, we strongly recommend that you visit your nearest polyclinic/General Practitioner (GP) with the health check result for a formal blood test and medical report.

How can I participate in Cardio4Cities @ NUHCS?

The complimentary health checks will be held at accessible locations such as places of worship, community clubs and other local gathering spots.

Pre-registration for Cardio4Cities @ NUHCS is required at the different locations.

To know where the next health check will be held at, please stay tuned to this webpage to find out more or email us at [email protected].

What's next after the health check?

After your health checks, our medical staff will review your results and advise you on the suggested next steps in improving your stats.

Is the health check complimentary?

Yes, the health check is complimentary as part of our community outreach initiative. However, if your results indicate that you need further medical assessment or treatment, kindly note that any necessary follow-up consultations with your GP or polyclinic will be at your own expense.

To support your journey, we also provide a complimentary follow-up health check of your three highs at our affiliated community pharmacies (i.e. Guardian, Unity, Watsons) six months later, so you can track your progress and stay on top of your health.
