Coronary Interventional Fellowship Programme

2026/08/17
Coronary artery disease remains one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. As interventional cardiology continues to evolve rapidly, there is a growing need for skilled operators who are proficient in contemporary coronary intervention techniques and technologies.
What is this programme about?

The Coronary Interventional Fellowship Programme at the National University Heart Centre, Singapore (NUHCS) is designed to equip cardiologists with the knowledge, technical expertise, and clinical judgement required to become competent interventional cardiologists specialising in coronary interventions.

What are the key areas of focus?

The fellowship provides comprehensive training in all aspects of coronary intervention, including:

  • Diagnostic coronary angiography and cardiac catheterisation
  • Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI)
  • Intravascular imaging, including Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
  • Coronary physiology assessment, including Fractional Flow Reserve (FFR) and microvascular evaluation
  • Calcium modification technologies and techniques
  • Complex coronary interventions, including bifurcation lesions, chronic total occlusions, in-stent restenosis, and primary PCI for acute myocardial infarction
  • Vascular access, haemodynamic assessment, and management of procedural complications
Who is this programme for?

This programme is intended for qualified cardiologists who wish to pursue subspecialty training in coronary intervention.

Applicants should be accredited general cardiologists.

What are the key learning opportunities for fellows?

Fellows will gain intensive hands-on experience through a high-volume interventional practice, with exposure to both routine and complex coronary procedures.

Key Learning Opportunities

  • Comprehesive training in diagnostic and interventional coronary procedures
  • Development of expertise in coronary lesion assessment and procedural planning
  • Practical experience in IVUS, OCT and physiological lesion assessment using pressure-wire technologies
  • Exposure to advanced PCI techniques and contemporary calcium modification devices
  • Training in the recognition and management of procedural complications and cardiogenic emergencies
  • Participation in clinical registries, research projects and academic presentations
  • Experience presenting complex cases at meetings and multidisciplinary discussions
Programme highlights

Our fellows benefit from exposure to the latest technologies and evidence-based practices in coronary intervention. The programme combines strong procedural training with opportunities for academic and professional development.

Key highlights include:

  • High-volume coronary intervention training with broad exposure to routine and complex PCI cases
  • Access to contemporary intravascular imaging and coronary physiology technologies, including IVUS, OCT, and FFR
  • Exposure to the latest calcium modification tools and advanced interventional techniques
  • Opportunities to participate in research, clinical registries, and academic activities
  • Involvement in AICT-AsiaPCR, a leading interventional cardiology meeting for which NUHCS is part of the organising committee
  • Certificate of Completion awarded upon successful completion of the programme
Length of fellowship
The Coronary Interventional Fellowship Programme is offered as a 12-month fellowship.
